BATH AND COAT CARE

Bath, blow-dry and de-shedding, at your curb

An organic bath or a medicated shampoo treatment, a full blow-dry and brushing, and de-shedding for coats that pack with undercoat. Done in the van in Orange, Woodbridge and Milford.

Chapter 01

A shedding coat packed with undercoat holds dirt and sheds on everything

A double coat that has not been properly worked out is a felt of loose undercoat trapped under the guard hairs. A quick rinse at home does not reach it. The dead hair stays, the coat holds oils and dirt against the skin, and the fur that was going to come out anyway ends up on the sofa instead of down the drain.

Sensitive skin is the other way a bath goes wrong. A dog that scratches after a wash is often reacting to the product, not the water, and a heavily perfumed shampoo on irritated skin makes it worse. Dogs with itchy, flaky or red skin need a different plan than a dog that just rolled in the yard.

Both problems come from treating every bath the same. We start by looking at the coat and the skin, and pick the shampoo and the brushing from there.

Organic bath, medicated option, then a dryer and a brush that finish the job

The standard bath is with organic dog shampoo. We only use all-organic pet products, and the whole wash happens in the van, so your dog is not sharing a tub or a dryer with anyone. For dogs with skin that needs it, we offer a medicated pet shampoo treatment, picked for the skin problem you describe when you book.

Then the coat dries. A blow-dry done with the stand dryer lifts the loose undercoat out of the coat while it is still damp, and the slicker brush and comb follow the airflow right down to the skin. Dried like this, the coat dries straight and fluffs evenly, and it does not stay damp against the skin where hotspots start.

Dogs that shed heavily can add de-shedding for $17.00. It is a dedicated pass to pull out the dead undercoat, so you find less of it on your floor between visits. If you also want a haircut, paws, nails and ears done, those are part of the full groom instead.

Chapter 03

Use a bath and coat visit between full grooms

A bath and coat visit is how you keep a coat comfortable between full grooms, especially through the spring and fall when shedding picks up. A dog that is washed, dried and brushed through before the coat is allowed to mat is a dog that is far easier to groom next time. We do not groom matted coats, so staying ahead of tangles is the cheapest way to avoid that conversation.

Pricing for the grooming package runs $65 - $85 an hour, and the hour depends on the size of the dog, the length and density of the coat, the brushing it needs, drying time and your dog's temperament. Call 203-804-6248 for a price range, and the quote is firm once we have seen your dog. We take dogs up to 70 pounds, all breeds.

Appointments are Tuesday to Saturday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, by appointment only. If you need to move one, 48 hours of notice avoids the $25 cancellation fee. Tell us when you book about any itching or sore spots, so the right shampoo is in the van before we pull up.
