Nails, ears and teeth

Nail grinding, ear cleaning and teeth brushing at your curb.

Nail clipping and grinding, clean ears, brushed teeth, tidy paws and glands expressed as needed, done in the van in Orange, Woodbridge and Milford.

Chapter 01

Long nails, waxy ears and tartar are the jobs that get skipped

The small jobs are the ones that slip. A dog gets a good-looking haircut and goes home with nails that click on the kitchen floor, ears that smell, and teeth nobody has looked at in months. None of it shows from across the room, which is exactly why it gets left.

Overgrown nails push a dog's weight back onto the heel and change how the foot meets the floor. Wax and moisture sit in a folded ear. Tartar builds along the gumline a little at a time. Each one is quiet until it is not, and each is far easier to keep on top of than to catch up on.

If you are not sure what condition your dog's nails, ears or teeth are in, ask when you book. We will look at them when the van parks at your curb in Orange, Woodbridge or Milford.

Nail clipping and grinding is done with clippers and a rotary grinder. Nail grinding is a $17.00 add-on, and it leaves the edge smooth where a clipped nail can be sharp. Dog foot pad cleaning goes with it, so the pads are clear of debris while the paws are already in hand.

Cleaning of dog ears is part of every standard groom, which is priced by the hour at $65 - $85. Canine teeth brushing is on the list of what we do, so mention it when you book and we will work it into the visit. Your groomer will not claim to treat a mouth or an ear problem. That is your vet's job.

Anal glands are expressed as needed, $10.00. Tell us if your dog has been scooting, and we handle it while the dog is on the table. All of this uses all-organic pet products, on dogs up to 70 pounds, by appointment only, Tuesday to Saturday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.

Chapter 03

Every standard groom already includes nails and ears, so keep them on a schedule

Nail trimming and ear cleaning are part of a standard groom here, so a dog that comes on a regular schedule gets them looked after each time instead of once a year. The add-ons are for the extra work: grinding, a gland expression, a closer look at the teeth.

Between visits, listen for clicking on hard floors and watch for head shaking or scratching at the ears. If either one keeps going, or you see redness, swelling, a bad smell that is new, or a dog that flinches when you touch a foot or a mouth, call your vet. We do groom work, and your vet does the diagnosis.

To book, call 203-804-6248. Give us 48 hours if you need to change a slot, or a $25 cancellation fee applies. The van runs on a full day of appointments, so a held slot matters.
