FULL GROOM, IN THE VAN

A full dog groom, done at your curb

Organic shampoo bath, blow-dry and a full brush-out, a haircut if your dog needs one, paws trimmed, nails clipped and ears cleaned. We park in your driveway in Orange, Woodbridge or Milford and your dog never leaves your street.

Chapter 01

Most bad grooms start with a coat clipped over tangles

The usual way a groom goes wrong is quiet. A coat gets clipped before it has been brushed all the way down to the skin, so the blade rides over tangles instead of through them. The dog comes home with uneven lengths, a patchy topline and a coat that mats again in days, because the knots were only cut around, never worked out.

The small jobs are the next to go. When a groom runs long, the nails get a quick snip, the ears get skipped and the paw pads never get a look. Owners rarely notice until the dog starts shaking its head or slipping on the kitchen floor.

We built the visit around the opposite order. The coat is read first, brushed through and judged before a clipper comes out, and nails, ears and paws are part of the standard groom, not extras you have to remember to ask for.

How a full groom goes in the van

Every full groom starts with an organic shampoo bath. We only use all-organic pet products, and the bath happens in the van, so there is no kennel, no cage dryer and no waiting room full of other dogs. The groomer is with your dog from the curb to the finish.

After the bath comes the blow-dry and a full brush-out, which is where a coat shows whether it is ready for the blades. If your dog needs a haircut, it is cut on a clean, dry, fully brushed coat so the lengths come out even. Paws are trimmed, nails are clipped, and ears are cleaned before your dog steps back down to you.

Pricing is by the hour: $65 - $85 an hour for the standard grooming package. There is no set price per cut, because the time depends on the scissor work, the brushing, the clipping, how much matting there is, how difficult the cut is, your dog's temperament, drying time, hair length and size. Call 203-804-6248 for a price range, and the quote is firm once we have seen your dog. Add-ons are listed at $17.00 for nail grinding, flea treatment and de-shedding, $10.00 for glands expressed as needed, and $25.00 for a de-skunking.

Chapter 03

Book ahead and keep the coat brushed in between

We take appointments Tuesday to Saturday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, by appointment only. Please give 48 hours of notice if plans change, because a $25 cancellation fee applies when we do not get it. The slot is held for your dog, and a late cancel is a gap in the day we cannot fill.

We take dogs up to 70 pounds, all breeds. We do not groom matted coats. It is a decision made in your dog's interest, because dematting a tight mat pulls on the skin and can mean a long, sore session. A few minutes with a slicker brush between visits keeps the coat in shape and keeps the next groom comfortable.

We guarantee you'll love the new look of your dog. If you have a new puppy, a senior dog or a breed we have not met on your street, say so when you call and we will plan the visit around that.
